Love and Fitness

It is vital that we do our best to protect whom and what we love, and that includes our own hearts, minds, and bodies as well. In the same way that we choose to love and protect the people who are closest to us, we must be deliberate and intentional in loving and protecting ourselves also. Love is a verb –an action verb to be exact. It is a word that extends beyond feelings and requires action. If you love yourself, you will actively protect and provide what your heart, mind, and body require for happiness and survival. Many of us find it easier to love others better than we love ourselves. We know that it takes quite a bit to maintain the love in any relationship that matters to us. We are often motivated and inspired to intentionally love those that we desire with discipline and consistency, but do we put the effort into doing the same for our bodies that also need that same discipline, motivation, desire, and intentionality?

Since most of us understand what it takes to love others, we can work towards applying those same principles to our own physical fitness, in order to stay healthy and mindful. In the same way that we are intentional in loving others by being mindful of them and working to understand and speak their love language, we must be intentional in working to understand and listen to our bodies as well. By enhancing our health IQ, we can define where we are on our health journey and what we need in order to feel and be healthy. We can then reach that goal by putting in the work. In the same way that we are often motivated to maintain a happy marriage or relationship and live in peace with those we love, we must maintain that same motivation to serve our bodies what they need to thrive as well.

It does not do any good to simply watch others put the work in, while we wish for nice bodies or healthy relationships. In the same way that we find ourselves in search of inspiration and ideas that will help us improve our relationships and make our partners happy, choosing to seek out fitness advice and consuming content focused on health and fitness can help keep us inspired to stay healthy and physically fit. However, just as it takes selfless discipline to continue to love someone even when the feeling of wanting to put that effort in may fade at times, it also takes a continued discipline to stay on track with our fitness goals and to continue to put the work in towards success. In both fitness and relationships desire is needed, and when the necessary effort and discipline is put in, the rewards that come with being successful are incomparable. Fitness and Love go beyond strength and endurance in both our bodies and our relationships; they are both lifestyles of doing what it takes to put the work in to maintain being healthy in both.
