Fighting Fees

Between Inflation and companies playing “Covid-catch-up”, life has gotten ridiculously expensive. You are already being forced to pay astronomical prices on necessities like gas and food; do your best not to give in to unnecessary fees. While many charges are non-negotiable, you should always fight with the ones that are.

OVER THE LIMIT FEES

To avoid over-limit fees, you need to turn off your account’s limit protection. If you still want over limit protection, make sure to call your creditor the first time you go over your limit. Be sure to communicate with your lender when over limit fees exceed the limit you have established. If you’re a good customer with no prior overages, there’s a good chance they’ll be happy to waive that first fee.

LATE PAYMENT FEES

90 percent of consumers who asked for a late payment fee to be waived received the waiver. It’s just a matter of asking., especially if you are not habitually late. You are more likely to be late in your payments when you don’t set a predetermined date in your calendar. As the deadline approaches, it becomes more difficult to focus on anything else other than catching up on the payment. To ensure satisfying your creditors, provide them with accurate payment dates instead.

ANNUAL FEES

Not all credit cards come with an annual fee. If yours does, you may want to close that one and open one that does not. Be sure to ask your creditor if they can waive the fee before you close your account and open a new one. Most likely they would prefer to accommodate you than to lose you as a customer.

COURT FEES

Court fees can be expensive, so ask for a court fee waiver. Whether you are on any type of government assistance or if you simply don’t make enough money to make ends meet, you may qualify for a waiver.

SAT FEES

If you come from a low-income household and are in the 11th or 12th grade, you may be eligible for free SAT testing. Be sure to speak with your school counselor about possible eligibility.

COLLEGE APPLICATION FEES

Free application fees are available to students who qualify for free SAT testing (ask your school counselor).

HOTEL FEES

When you check in to a hotel, they may charge that room price as well as additional fees that are not included on the Internet and charging them makes it hard to determine how much the total will be. Request an itemized list of what is included in your stay before you book the room. If any of the fees are associated with services that you don’t plan to use, ask to have those fees removed
