What does it mean to live on purpose?

I define living on purpose as simply doing with your life what God has created and destined for you to do. It is using the gifts, talents, and abilities that God has assigned to you. Around this time last year, I hit a rough spot. I felt stuck and uninspired, and at times, the challenges felt overwhelming. In those moments, I chose not to take the victim stance but to stand firm on the Word of God. Romans 8:28 says, ‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.’ It’s important to remember that God’s purpose is what matters most in our lives. I’m finally beginning to live on purpose. Sometimes, it takes time to truly become yourself.

When you are living on purpose all of your activities, intentions, and goals align with your purpose.

Do you know your purpose? If you don’t, take time right now to define it.

  • Start examining what you value most. Is it finances, faith, family, generosity, connection to others, or something else?

  •

  • Consider what you would want others to say when they describe you. What legacy do you want to leave? You will be known for something—what do you want that to be?

  •

  • Write down your purpose. The simple act of writing things down, greatly increases their power in our lives. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just write it down. You can refine it as you go.

  •

  • Start and end each day by reciting it. In moments of fear and frustration read it. Doing so will help you keep things in perspective and remind you to stay focused.

Don’t waste time stumbling through life. Identify your purpose and strive to let it express itself each day in your work, your play, and your relationships. Living life on purpose will translate to better well-being for you, your family, and your world.
