Breaking bad habits, especially around diet and lifestyle, can be transformative. For me, the journey began with a tough conversation with my primary care physician (PCP). He insisted I needed medication like Ozempic or Metformin to lower my A1C. I resisted, seeking a natural approach. Through prayer and reflection, God provided me with a blueprint to lower my A1C from 9.5 to 5.8 in just one year, without medication.
The first step was eliminating sugars from my diet. This meant cutting out not just obvious sweets, but also hidden sugars in processed foods. Instead, I embraced clean eating, focusing on whole foods and cooking at home. This shift was crucial, as it allowed me to control what I was consuming and avoid the temptations of fast food, which often contains high levels of sugar and unhealthy fats.
Working remotely presented another challenge: staying active. It’s easy to become sedentary when your workspace is just a few steps away from your living space. I made it a point to get up and move regularly, integrating exercise into my daily routine. Outdoor activities became a staple, providing not only physical benefits but also mental and spiritual rejuvenation.
Spirituality played a central role in my journey. I prayed more, seeking to connect with God and align my actions with His guidance. Fasting became a regular practice, helping me to focus and listen more intently. This spiritual discipline strengthened my resolve and provided the support I needed to make lasting changes.
Through prayer, fasting, and a commitment to healthier habits, I lost 20 pounds and saw a significant drop in my A1C. This journey has truly been a huge testament to the power of faith and also to the importance of taking intentional steps towards a healthier lifestyle. Praise God for guiding me and helping me break these bad habits, leading to a much healthier, more fulfilled life.
