The Gratitude Effect : Discovering the Mental, Emotional, and Physical Benefits of Blessing Counting

Several years ago, I did something interesting. I made a conscious decision to focus on the positive instead of focusing on the negative. This shift has profoundly changed my life —and the people closest to me —for the better. As I made the decision to count my blessings, I discovered that being thankful can actually change a situation for the better. I learned it is impossible to be thankful and negative at the same time, because gratitude changes our perspective and overall outlook on life.

When we decide to express thankfulness for all of life’s blessings, we are genuinely welcoming God into our lives. It brings joy, optimism, and peace into our hearts.

Counting blessings is powerful and creates positive emotions that can benefit your mental, emotional, and even physical well-being.

So, how does this benefit your life?

Enhances Mental Health: Gratitude has been associated with a decrease in anxiety and depressive symptoms. You can change your perspective from one of negativity and enhance your general mental health by concentrating on the good things in your life and expressing gratitude for what you have.

Enhances Relationships with Others: Being grateful might help you build stronger bonds. Being appreciative of the people in your life strengthens your ties and promotes a sense of connectedness. Generally speaking, people like being around appreciative and thankful people.

Enhances Physical Health: Research indicates that cultivating thankfulness may benefit one’s physical well-being. It can result in a stronger immune system, lower blood pressure, and better sleep. Your body is better able to preserve and enhance your health when you’re happier and less stressed

Counting our blessings requires a shift in perspective. Our Father’s thoughts are not our thoughts, nor are His ways our ways. His Word can renew us, and His Word can give us the energy we need to continue on our desired path. Stay Strong!

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all you need, you will abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).
